Moving Out: A quick guide

Now 23, I've decided to move out. This is not the usual move out. I will be moving out with my siblings. Well, I lived with my dad, then my mom, then now with my aunt. It's a bit complicated but that's an overview. And because we are staying at my aunt's place and I don't want to deal with unnecessary stress so I decided it's best to start living on my own - I mean on our own, just me and my 2 younger siblings..

Well technically, I have an elder sister but she is living on her own but still supports us all the way. She needs to be near her work so it's just the three of us who's going to look for a place.

I'm so excited about this and I want to start planning. I want to be prepared with my budget and everything that comes with moving out.

Here are the things to consider before moving out:

Money

First and foremost, you need to be financially ready. This means a steady income that can support you and all your bills. For me it would be my income and my sister's support that I need to budget.

So, how much does it cost to move out?

I'm looking for a house-for-rent around P5000-P6000 a month. I need to compare a couple of prices on the market to determine what would be best.

And how much do I need to have saved up before I move out?

Ideally, you would need at least 3 months of expenses saved up to make sure you've got everything covered. You need to make a budget to breakdown all the expenses. You’ll need to put aside for a security deposit, first month’s rent, moving and furniture costs.

Set a Deadline

Once you've decided that it's time to move, give your family a notice and begin the count down. In my case, I really love my aunt and it's sad that we have to leave, but I need to sit down and have a talk with her.

My target date would be on Christmas break this year. So I still have 6 months to plan but roughly around 3 months to save up.

Items you need in your apartment

Moving into an unfurnished apartment would require a couple of items you need. Good thing we have our own rice cooker, beddings, washing machine and cabinets the rest I still need to purchase!! This is what I really need to focus on.

To wrap up, it would be a big decision but know that moving out would help you be independent, braver, and responsible.
